Interior Health is hosting its Fall Virtual Job Fair on October 3 in an effort to help recruit healthcare professionals to the region.

With over 1,800 job vacancies posted on the regional health authority website, Interior Health’s Recruitment team Sourcing coordinator Kailee Thorne says there are quite a few vacancies needing to be filled.

“The vacancy number depends on the community, and the profession but we have lots of vacancies and lots of opportunity for people, anywhere from casual to permanent full-time and across all the communities within Interior Health,” said Thorne.

Back in 2020, Thorne says they had to pivot the in person event online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, she explains because of its proven success in attracting healthcare professionals from further distances, they decided to keep it virtual again this year.

“Especially with people working from home and when we are trying to recruit from different provinces it’s great that we can speak to anyone from anywhere and we are able to cover a diverse range of professions.”

She adds the online digital fair allows for a real-time one-to-one session between the applicant and the recruiter.

“It expands the candidate pool as we seek to attract the best talent for the organization and the health care industry,” said Thorne.

Those interested in attending can book online to meet with a recruiter across all disciplines, including Nursing, Laboratory, Administration, Leadership roles, as well as healthcare career access programs, explains Thorne.

“They can be someone that’s in school to become a healthcare assistant (for example) or someone that is interested in joining from another province, and that is already a qualified healthcare assistant.”

She adds there will be a few questions in the applicants profile when they register for the event, which she suggests will determine the sessions available based on their qualifications.

“They will see the booth that pertains to their qualifications and their specialty of interest, and then they will be able to see a little bit about that profession and have some information on it.”

The information will include what Interior Health expects, what the careers are about, and what the qualifications are for the job.

“Then they will be able to register for a one-to-one session with a recruiter,” added Thorne.

Once October 3 rolls around, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., those who registered can sign onto a zoom session with the recruiter to discuss potential job opportunities.

“The recruiters will then forward any applications that meet the qualifications to the hiring managers and in some cases, the hiring managers will be on the call as well to bring that lens in and have more of an initial interview.”

Anyone interested in attending can sign up online at jobs.interiorhealth.ca.
